Hi Alex,
As I had lost John/Sarah Shore immediately after their marriage in 1836 and you had a similar gap I looked at where the 80th Regiment of Foot may have been before their arrival in India.
From http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/080-793.htm I found that they were in Australia from 1836-1844 when they went to India.
